چکیده

We report an experimental and theoretical study to optimize the geometry of far-IR photoconductive detectors with diffraction-limited throughput. Factors considered in this optimization include internal optical path relative to measured absorption length, photoconductive gain, uniformity of illumination, cosmic ray cross section, and compatibility of the design with the requirements of 1and 2-D arrays. A rod-shaped detector geometry with square cross section, electrodes on the lateral faces, and a beveled backface to trap the radiation by total internal reflection was found to have nearly equal responsivity to the best detectors in

Germanium Detectors for the Far

Germanium photoconductors have been used in a variety of infrared astronomical experiments, both airborne and space-based. The bulk of our knowledge of the far-infrared properties of astronomical objects has come from observations made with these detectors. This paper describes the operational theory of these detectors, including amplifier considerations. Examples of recent focal plane array de...

PbS Colloidal Quantum Dot Photodetectors operating in the near infrared

Colloidal quantum dots have recently attracted lot of interest in the fabrication of optoelectronic devices due to their unique optical properties and their simple and low cost fabrication. PbS nanocrystals emerged as the most advanced colloidal material for near infrared photodetectors. In this work we report on the fabrication and characterization of PbS colloidal quantum dot photoconductors....

Statistical Nature of the Infrared Heterodyne Signal ' ' )

1 HETERODYNE detection is a process which has been used in the radiowave, microwave, 1 and optical regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Recently, the technique has been extended to the middle infrared as well [I-31. This paper discusses theoretical and experimental considerations related to the signal-to-noise ratio and the statistical nature of the coherently detected signal at the 10.6 pm...

Screening of the bias field in terahertz generation from photoconductors.

We include screening of the bias field by the space charge induced by carrier transport and by the generated terahertz radiation in a model describing the far-field electromagnetic radiation from a large-aperture biased photoconductor triggered by an ultrashort optical pulse. At high f luences, space-charge screening is shown to produce bipolar terahertz waveforms. However, the dominant saturat...
